City of Chains

Set in a dark, dystopian city, this sci-fi RPG follows a group of fugitives seeking to escape the authorities. Engineer Holt Allaway is falsely accused of conspiring against the government and sent to a holding facility, where prisoners are interrogated before being executed or used as laborers and test subjects. After machines attack the facility, Holt escapes with scientist Chloe and assassin Lorelei, guided by a mysterious figure named Cai.

The group can confront enemies directly, use grenades, or avoid combat. Non-linear locations offer alternate routes through hacking, lockpicking, persuasion, and smashing through walls, while the player’s decisions affect the surrounding world. Characters gain skill points as they make progress rather than through levels or experience points. Ingredients can be used to craft grenades and medicinal pills, and the team’s morale affects how effectively allies perform in and out of combat.
