This strategy game and military simulation depicts the German counterattack at Mortain during the fighting in Normandy in World War II. Close Combat - Panthers in the Fog offers single battles, linked operations, and a campaign covering six days of fighting across 35 connected battlefields. Both sides are represented by historically accurate formations and units.
The player issues strategic orders to battalion- and regiment-sized forces, assigns air and artillery support, then fights engagements in real time. Each battle determines which areas are controlled and where troops can move next. Long-range interdiction, high ground, and adverse weather affect the fighting, while a psychological model shapes soldiers’ behavior; individual troops can tire, gain experience, and gain or lose morale.
