Action ist ein Genre von Videospielen, bei dem der Erfolg bei der Durchführung einer bestimmten Aufgabe von der Reaktionsgeschwindigkeit des Spielers und der Fähigkeit abhängt, schnell die richtige Entscheidung zu treffen. Die Dynamik solcher Spiele ist hoch, obwohl einige es ermöglichen, das Tempo zu drosseln. Am häufigsten werden zu diesem Genre Kämpfspiele, Shooter, Plattformspiele und einige Subgenres von Echtzeit-Strategie gezählt. In Actionspielen können Elemente von Erkundung, Rennen, Rätseln und anderem vorhanden sein, aber die Grundlage basiert immer auf der visuellen-motorischen Koordination.
