The spell is primarily needed for finding collectible items and rare equipment, as well as for accessing certain Hogwarts locations and enjoying quick exploration of the open world. Therefore, we recommend learning it as early as possible. Like many mechanics in the game, Alohomora becomes available as you progress through the main storyline.

You will have the opportunity to learn this spell during the main story, in the mission The Caretaker's Lunar Lament. It is part of the global quest Prepare to Search for the Last Keeper. Select the quest and head to Hogwarts' caretaker, Gladwin Moon.

The man will ask you to bring him two demiguise statues, located in the closed areas of Hogwarts. According to him, someone is mocking Moon by placing statues of creatures he is very afraid of around the area.

These moons can only be collected at night. During the day, when the moon in the statues' hands does not glow, the collection button will be inactive.

This spell does not occupy a slot, so there's no need to worry about having to keep it in your arsenal all the time. Just approach a locked door and press the interaction button (E on the keyboard or X on the gamepad). Locks that can be picked are highlighted by the Revelio spell.

After completing the task, Gladwin Moon will talk about being ready to teach the protagonist more advanced versions of the Alohomora spell if you bring him enough demiguise statues. The upgraded versions of the spell allow you to unlock second and third-level locks.

If the character knows the Alohomora spell, they will be able to interact with a locked lock. At this moment, a mini-game will start. In it, you have to rotate the inner and outer dials until the lock elements of the corresponding color start emitting a mechanical buzzing sound and smoothly rotate. If you are playing on a gamepad, use the sticks to control the dials. On the keyboard, the keys Q, E, A, and D are responsible for rotation.

Pay close attention to the sounds and movements of the elements, as sometimes the «correct» interval is quite small. We recommend starting with broad movements of the sticks, slowing down until you find the right position.

While unlocking locks and exploring chests, don't forget to sell unnecessary equipment to merchants, as the inventory without enhancements quickly fills up with junk, and destroying items does not bring any money.
